Managing Director of Digital Square

PATH

Managing Director of Digital Square

Tracking Code

10460

Job Description

This position can be located in Seattle, Washington DC, San Francisco, United States; New Delhi, India; Nairobi, Kenya; Johannesburg, South Africa; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Dakar, Senegal; Geneva, Switzerland

PATH is a global organization that works to accelerate health equity by bringing together public institutions, businesses, social enterprises, and investors to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges. With expertise in science, health, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales solutions—including vaccines, drugs, devices, diagnostics, and innovative approaches to strengthening health systems worldwide.

International development and global health represent one of the greatest opportunities for the impact of digital technologies on a global scale. New technologies, approaches and tools are emerging daily, unfortunately into a fragmented and immature digital health market landscape that currently limits their promise to transform country health systems and accelerate and amplify progress towards national and global health goals.

Digital Square is a global initiative, supported by PATH and funded by multiple donors, including USAID and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to invest in and mature the field of global digital health to realize this promise. Conceived from the lessons of the inefficiencies and redundancies of prior investments in digital technologies for international development Digital Square brings global and regional actors together to create a new way of thinking about, and a new way of doing, development.

We are maturing the field by improving coordination and alignment of both the donors that fund digital health projects and the community that implements them. We are improving the open source digital health software ecosystem and the capacity of governments to choose, maintain, and use these global goods. This increased coordination and matured software ecosystem will allow low- and middle-income countries to effectively manage their own regional and country digital health systems, thereby reducing reliance on development technical assistance over the longer term and improving health impact.

The Managing Director of Digital Square will lead or play a key supporting role for a portfolio of the Digital Square’s country, regional or global digital health implementation activities. He or she will need to ensure donor coordination, partner alignment, and staff direction during the implementation of these activities.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility (60%) of this position will be to lead day-to-day management of country and regional initiatives in the Digital Square portfolio, set and enact the vision/targets for country expansion, and setting a standard operational approach that can be replicated in each new location. This expansion would specifically include buy-ins through the USAID mechanism. Activities include:

·         Define and oversee the operationalization of technical strategies for country and regional digital health implementation activities in alignment with the Digital Square mission and vision and under the guidance of the Technical Director

·         Define organizational structural strategies and project direction for the implementation of activities within each country/regional network

·   Support the Executive Director and Operations Director with the creation and implementation of a staffing plan and buy in strategy for each buy-in which details the following:  staff LOE, overall scope, deliverables timeline and coordination with overall cooperative agreement and reporting requirements

·         Serve as a technical representative and advocate for PATH/Digital Square at conferences, meetings, and other forums as directed by the Technical or Executive Director

·         Support in particular in-country Directors/leaders - ensuring technical direction of country
