About the Role –Associate (Strategy & Programs)

The Associate will be joining a team building to design and implement several initiatives/ programs in our two areas of focus – Agriculture and Workforce Development. In addition to our direct investing, we aim to build a platform to support and accelerate the impact of our portfolio. This includes fundraising, communications, partnerships, and other special projects that convene the ecosystem of entrepreneurs, funders, corporations, policymakers, and others addressing these issues. This position is entrepreneurial and preferred candidates will be excited by a start-up environment. This position will report to the Associate Director.

More specifically, you will have the opportunity to be involved in:

Program Management

  • Assist the Sector Leads of Agriculture and Workforce Development in developing Acumen’s designing new intervention models/ innovative initiatives in the two sectors.
  • Facilitate program implementation for programs such as an early-stage accelerator, and manage aspects such as facilitating virtual workshops, mentor engagement etc.
  • Monitor the overall experience and impact of the programs and identify opportunities for improvement and redesign.

Fundraising 

  • Manage fundraising operations and process, in close collaboration with the Sector Leads.
  • Generate leads for funders that are capable of multi-million dollar gifts in interest areas related to Acumen India’s work.

The World Economic Forum is looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual to lead the development of the Food Innovation Hub in India, based out of the Forum’s Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) office based in Mumbai. The role will involve platform and partnership curation in the development of next generation of multistakeholder partnerships in India and will involve close coordination and interaction with the network of regional Food Innovations Hubs in development in Asia Africa, Europe and Latin America.

 

Reporting Lines & Interactions:

Background

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters and exclusion from healthcare. We have been present in India since 1999 providing free-of-charge essential healthcare to people in remote areas, and specialist care for people affected by HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, hepatitis C, antibiotic resistance, tuberculosis, kala azar and sexual and gender-based violence. MSF was awarded the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development in 1996 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.

COVID-19 Emergency Intervention

Today we are facing a new global challenge. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are racing to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in over 70 countries, including opening new projects in areas that are becoming pandemic hotspots. In India, Mumbai is as of now considered as one of the biggest hotspot in the country. The rising number of confirmed cases especially in the slum areas requires more focused approaches and interventions. Doctors Without Borders India (DWBI) decided to start an emergency intervention to support and strengthen COVID response in M-East Ward by focusing on:

  • Disease prevention in Govandi slum (health promotion, Water and Sanitation);
  • Management of COVID-19 ward for mild to moderate cases

Context

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic Doctors Without Borders India (DWBI) is planning to implement a comprehensive COVID-19 intervention in the M/East Ward (MEW), Mumbai and other part of Mumbai (Maharashtra) as needed with the purpose of preventing, diagnosing and treating mild and moderate cases of COVID-19 in a dedicated health facility thereby decongesting the current referral hospitals to be able to focus on the severe cases. The project will also implement OPD/Fever clinic to strengthen screening, diagnosis and testing and WASH and health promotion intervention in the MEW community in close collaboration with the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and other actors.

This position is remote due to Covid-19, but you will be based at one of our above mentioned WRI’s offices once restrictions have lifted.

Job Summary

In this role, you will lead the Urban Efficiency and Climate work stream, which includes managing a team of experts on inclusive climate and energy planning, including technical groups focused on specific solutions such net zero carbon buildings and electric mobility (co-leading with Urban Mobility area). Reporting to the WRI Ross Center Global Director, you will be a core member of the Executive Team of WRI Ross Center.You will be responsible for mentoring program and research staff and coordinating a community of practice across the 6-country global network. You will develop and steer a strategy and work plan for the work stream to deliver inclusive and equitable local, national and international outcomes, raise funds, and develop a coherent and compelling portfolio of projects. You will also responsible for integrating and collaborating with other work streams on urban development and urban mobility, following a cohesive global strategy across multiple solutions. 

In addition to the internal responsibilities, you will serve in an external capacity, collaborating with other Executive Team members, to shape and develop a strategy for how the Center engages with local, subnational, regional and national stakeholders. You will engage at a strategic level to promote the importance of cities to achieving countries’ nationally determined contributions (NDCs) through low-carbon, sustainable urban growth, and engage directly with leaders and policy makers in developing countries. You will represent WRI Cities in cities-related partnerships and during high-level events (e.g. Global Covenant of Mayors, Conference of Parties (COP), etc.). Ideally, you will have extensive experience working with city and national public and private stakeholders in a similar capacity as well as an understanding of the global sustainable development agendas (e.g. Paris Agreement/NDCs, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), New Urban Agenda, etc.).

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Vision and Approach

  • In partnership with international office teams, represent the WRI Ross Center approach on urban efficiency and climate through direct engagement and interaction with cities, national governments and other global actors
  • Define a strategic approach to integrate net zero carbon buildings, electric mobility, and inclusive climate and energy planning – supported by urban finance and data & tools – in partnership with
