River: 
Rivers with their tributary are the main channels of drainage of the land surface .They are at the same time also the chief agents of land erosion and the main lines for the transport of the product of the land to the sea. The drainage systems of the two regions , peninsular and extra peninsular India having had to accommodate themselves to two very widely divergent types of topography are necessarily very different in Character. Himachal falls into the drainage systems of the extra  peninsular area .the main channels of drainage in region are the Chandra Bhaga or the Chenab,the Ravi ,the beas ,the sutluj and the Yamuna .the catchment of these rivers are fed by snow and rainfall and protected by an extensive cover of natural vegetation .the unique distinction of the Himachal region is that it provides water both to the Indus and the Ganga basins .a brief survey of the major rivers systems of the region will help us in understanding better the drainage systems of the Pradesh .

Glaciers=In the Himachal Himalayas, there are number of glaciers. which Are playing an important role as a renewing source of fresh water for the millions of people living in the plains of northern and eastern India .In summer, large quantities of water melt from the glaciers and flow down the rivers and streams draining the Himalayas .fresh snow is added to the glaciers during the winters .the prominent glaciers, which are located in Himachal Pradesh are given below:

1 Bara Shigri: the Bara Shigri glacier is the largest glaciers in the Chandra valley of Lahaul and difficult to be trekked. It is tenanted in Acirque on the middle slopes of the main Himalayas range. Small tributary glaciers feed the trunk glaciers. High mountains cover it from three sides. It is about 3 km wide and km long.
2         Chandra: This glacier is responsible forming Chandertal Lake and has originally separated from                                   Bara Shigri glacier. It is tenanted in a cirque of the towering peak.
3        The lady of Keylong: This glacier is situated at in altitude of about 6061 m, which can be seen from Keylong and is popular among the visitors. It is interesting to note that it was named by lady
